The winter season has officially arrived, and with it, the return of TCIS soccer. On February 25, both the Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls teams took to the field for their opening matches against Yongsan International School of Seoul, or YISS for short. Despite freezing temperatures and patches of lingering snow along the sidelines, TCIS delivered performances that set an exciting tone for the season ahead.
The Varsity Boys kicked off the afternoon with energy and confidence. Led by captains Lakshya Y. ‘26 and Jimin K. ‘27, the team showed little hesitation against a program competing in a higher division. Nicholas B. ‘27 opened the scoring with a composed finish from the left wing, giving TCIS early momentum. Lakshya Y. followed with a powerful strike from outside the box that left little chance for the goalkeeper. Freshman Jun added to the tally with a well timed tap in goal, capping off an impressive attacking display.
For a squad featuring several new additions, the chemistry on the field was notable. The boys demonstrated sharp passing, organized defense, and a willingness to press forward. If this first outing is any indication, TCIS Varsity Boys appear poised to compete strongly within their division and make a deep run this season.
The Varsity Girls matched that intensity in what could only be described as a resilient performance. Facing the same higher division opponent, the girls refused to be intimidated. After conceding early pressure, they rallied to level the match by halftime and maintained their composure through the final whistle.
Mina C. ‘28 led the charge with two crucial goals, while freshman Shinee L. added another to keep TCIS within reach. The team’s determination and discipline were evident throughout the match. Despite integrating several new players into the lineup, the girls displayed cohesion and grit that suggest significant potential for the remainder of the season.
Both teams will return to their home field on February 27, where they are scheduled to face Osan High School. The Varsity Girls will play first, followed by the Varsity Boys.
With opening performances like these, the winter season promises excitement for both teams.
